If only I were like Madiba.....

December 5th 2013 was the day this great leader died and i woke up and i saw various updates about his death... day 1. The next day more and more people kept on creating awareness and I thought to myself 'okay he was great, they do this for great people'. Day 3 and no one would stop talking about this man... countries across the world urged their citizens to mourn for some days while others some weeks. Tv channels put a halt to some of their shows to grief, that indeed it was a great loss. All the celebrities, presidents and important persons all said a thing or two about this man and am like wow.... what really makes Nelson Mandela this great?

I couldn't just tweet 'R.I.P Nelson Mandela' because its "trending" i was more curious of why the whole world felt his pass away. I mean many great leaders have died but this is the first I've seen that's so significant.

Well my curiosity was satisfied when i found out the true meaning of leadership, I can say I found the true meaning of greatness in the death of Mandela. It struck me when i found out that the world didn't admire Nelson Mandela because he had money, fame, power, eductation or because he was the first democratically elected South African President. No!

The world marveled at Madiba because he possessed three virtues; Self sacrifice, he impersonated passion, he accepted everyone's difference.
I cant  believe he spent 27 years in prison and eventually he came out holding no grudge but just being happy he was freeman and most importantly he could continue his doings.....that's the thing with passion, its the fuel of life it creates an abundance of energy that sustains your actions. Even when he was elected as president in the year 1994, he was given opportunity to take revenge but instead he preached forgiveness........ That's an awesome man! He was so passionate about peace and unity that he radiated it... he had the charisma that forcefully compelled people to follow.

Nelson Mandela fought apartheid cause he felt people should relinquish the need to judge by the color of the skin. He knew humanity could only be expressed by tolerance and compassion and so therefore were the first steps to being at peace with yourself. Mandela never gave up with respects to all the setbacks cause he knew true failure was only when he gave up... he did not only stand for what he believed  he was ready to die for it.

Many of us seek greatness... but in what? true greatness starts with me! it starts with you. Nowadays everyone wants to be famous and have a record label, have the money have the ladies... I mean people want to enjoy life cause you only live once right? But assuming death comes what impact would you have made in the world? Will people remember you after a decade? will your life story be a tale parents would like to pass on to their children? Everybody runs a race... find your passion! Search for it like the dog thats looking for its lost bone.... true fulfillment in life is laying on death's bed and dying with a smile knowing you've done your part.

If only I were Madida.....I will be a better leader, think a greater way, and forgive no matter the circumstance. God bless
